The Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M),has sizeable presence in the states of Kerala, West Bengal and Tripura. In West Bengal and Tripura states, as of 2004, it currently holds the government. It split from the Communist Party of India in 1964 because of what it describes as the latter's revisionism and sectarianism.
