Started career as an Assistant Engineer in KSEB; was Deputy Electrical Inspector, Malappuram; resigned from service to contest the Lok Sabha election in 1989. Entered politics while a student; was A.I.S.F. Unit Secretary, S.N. College, Punalur during 1974-76; was Member, A.I.S.F. Taluk Committee, Pathanapuram during 1976-78; Vice-President A.I.Y.F. Mandalm Committee, Pathanapuram during 1989-91; was President, Manjakkala Scheduled Caste Industrial Co-operative Society. Elected to KLA in 1991.
